This project focused on redesigning the website of Punk Rockers Pastries, a creative and visually unique donut shop. While the original website had charm, it was cluttered, difficult to navigate, and overwhelming for users. The homepage displayed too much information at once, lacked a clear structure, and was missing key UI elements like a search bar. Navigation was inconsistent, and users often had to click multiple times to place an order, which made the process inefficient.
My goal was to improve the overall user experience by making the interface more intuitive and streamlined while maintaining the brand’s creative identity. I began by analyzing the site using Jakob Nielsen’s Usability Heuristics and Information Architecture (IA) principles. I then designed multiple prototypes in Figma and tested them with users. The revised homepage displays information in a cleaner, more digestible format, includes a functional search bar, and reduces cognitive overload by limiting how much content appears at once.
One of the most critical improvements was on the order page. In the original version, product details opened on a new page, making it easy for users to get lost. In my redesign, product information appears next to the items in a side panel, improving browsing speed and user control. The number of items displayed per scroll was also reduced to six, preventing users from feeling overwhelmed. I also refined the button behaviors, added clearer feedback elements, and ensured that navigation between ordering steps was intuitive and seamless.
I conducted user testing with over ten individuals, gathering feedback on usability, layout clarity, and visual design. Based on their input, I iterated on the font choices, button contrast, and visual flow. Most users reported that the redesign was easier to use, faster to navigate, and more aligned with the shop’s creative energy.
Overall, the redesign project greatly enhanced both the usability and aesthetic appeal of the website by addressing critical UX flaws while preserving the shop’s unique personality.
